Baby Linens 101

With the arrival of a new-born comes a surge in laundry. Finding the best product and knowing how  to take care of it is important for your linens and your baby’s health. Here are some tips on how you  take care of your Linens.
  • Pre- wash your baby linens before you use them.
    • Most babies usually have sensitive skin. Washing removes all the residues and irritants. Using a small mesh bag during washing can keep your linens from getting caught and being damaged.
    • Always follow care-label instructions.
  • Choose a mild detergent specially made for babies
    • Washing your baby’s beddings in regular liquid detergent can sometimes cause allergies so it is better to use liquid as it typically rinse out more completely than powders, which can leave behind flakes that may irritate an infant's skin.
  • Wash sheets in warm water, not hot, on gentle or delicate cycle, and avoid overloading the washer to prevent fiber breakdown from excessive abrasion and agitation.
  • If you MUST dry your linens in a dryer, we recommend that you use the lowest heat setting possible, and dry them for no longer than a few minutes, even if they are still wet or damp upon removal. They’re supposed to be! Never, ever let them dry completely. Note: it is in the last minutes of a dryer cycle that fabric overheats and dries out, making it brittle and lifeless over time.
  • Lastly, store your linens in a cool dry place; avoid plastic bags, cardboard boxes and cedar chests.
